Liban Jibril, class of ’13

Founded in 2012, Warthogs’ World is the official student-run newspaper of Harare International School. Its members include both High School students ranging from 9th grade to 12th grade. Members meet on a weekly basis to discuss and share ideas and concerns within the club and the school community as a whole. Journalists, Sectional Editors, and the Editor-in-Chief are all responsible for writing articles and creating posts that are pertinent to the newspaper’s audience – students, teachers, and families that are part of the Harare International School community as well as visitors from other schools around the globe. In support of both environmental sustainability and effective communication in the 21st Century, Warthogs’ World is modeled entirely as an open online forum for discussion and debate on issues that concern Harare International School and the world as a whole. Since its founding it has been a valuable source of news on current events around campus; a setting for the development of students’ communicative skills; and a showcase of the creativity and spirit at HIS.

As of 2012, Warthogs’ World has held its meetings in Mr. McCauley’s classroom in the High School Block every Wednesday during the lunch period. Editors-in-Chief that have previously served are Peter Donahue (2012 – 2013), Liban Jibril (2012 – 2013), Miguel Alt (2013 – 2014), Simeon Gboun (2013- 2015), Ruby Zaveri (2015-2016), and Shany Habber (2015-2016). Current editor in chief is Hagar Sivan (2015-2017).

The newspaper is always looking for new contributors and members to join the existing body of inspired and motivated students and journalists. Feel free to stop by during Wednesday lunch meeting or speak to one of the current members to learn more about how you can be a part of our endeavors.

Our Slogan

“Follow the Tail!”

Miguel Alt: I'll always remember the incredibly crazy stories and memories that my buddies and I have made over the years during Explore Zimbabwe. Getting to travel with such awesome people every year has been exhilarating every time, and it has given all of us an opportunity to welcome new students into our community and family. I've visited ancient ruins, learned about protected species, danced and sang around fires, jumped in icy water on early mornings, examined the anatomy of an impala, and forged friendships with phenomenal individuals that will last forever in my heart. I love my Senior class so much. Some of my best memories reside with you all.
